Cable News (M.7)

I agree with the fact that cable channels like Fox CNN, and MSNBC has the tendency to tailor what they report to sway their viewers.  In this case, it's talking about certain media outlets coming together trying to get Obama re-elected to office in 2012.  Is that right?  That's where I disagree.  As a news outlet, they're supposed to be fair and balanced, tell both sides as it is, and let the public decide who would be a better candidate as president when they vote.  All news outlets are supposed to be honest, about both the good and the bad.  It just makes it harder for the people who actually care about the elections, and now they have to dig further to make sure the facts being reported these cable news channels are in fact wholeheartedly true.  For people who may not have access to these extra means of information, or the news maybe their primary resource of information, it puts them at a dis-advantage.  For some people, they automatically think that just because it's on the news, that it's correct information.
Headlining was Obama wanting to have higher tax rates for the rich (meaning anyone that has an annual income of at least $1 million).  For Obama, to get it to pass, he had to up the amount a rich person makes a year to be considered rich and to be taxed like middle class citizens.  Under the current stipulations ($250,000/yr) the bill failed, but Obama feels that if he ups the amount to $1 million, the bill will most likely pass.  Depending on what station you're watching, they will state that the Democrats are reworking this just to sharpen their edge for the 2012 elections.  Other channels will say that this will help slim down our national deficit by taxing the rich.  What stood out in our readings this week, was the fact that the democrats have the media on their side while the republicans have the public.  The republicans are more in tune to what the citizens want our government to do.  Another point I found interesting in our readings was the fact that the line between non-partisan news and political commentary on TV and radio have been blurred.  Watching  between cable channels on this topic after hearing that last statement, the difference really stood out.
Given this information, it does matter, because the information that they stations give out can have the effect of giving people false pretenses on the topic at hand.  For the media, who wants Obama to win the 2012 elections, of course they are going to word everything just right to try and sway the public to vote for him.
